Penland. support, and no servants. A'ye Coffee.—Dr. L. J. Roberts, in a letter to the LaGrange Reporter, warns the public against the use of Rye, as a substitute for Coffee. He says:— 'The grain when burnt contains upwards of fifty per cent. o\'phoi^plidric acid, which acts injurious ly upon thti whole bony structure. In the young it efiectually prevents the full development of the osseous tissues, and in the old, it lays the founda tion for dry gangrene. It po.ssesses the power of dissolving the phosphate of lime, which con stitutes upwards of fifty per cent, of the bone in man. Ti ndcr yiercidu of I’miki-et.—'I’he Yankee Con- gre.ss at Washington has before it a sweeping con fiscation bill, preparatory to the subjugation t>f the South. Amongst other provisions is one, which, directing the sale ot land, forbids that auy greater (juantity than IGO acres shall be purchased by one person. This is a develo])in«nt of the “truck jnitcli,” '•‘•ijardcn toys'’ idea ol this miserable huck stering race. Broad acres, are associated iu their minds with gentility; and they have an instinctive abhorrence ot a gentleman. This war had its origin, in a great degree, in that feeling. KkUinOiid H/i/’i/.
